Wired Festival @ The Vortex Jazz Bar - Posted August 17, 2009

Sunday 27th September – FREE entry!

Just booked in to play this bad-boy London festival. Here is a little blurb from super-promotor Kevin Molloy:

Wired Fest ran for the first time on Saturday 29th September 2007. It was considered to have been a massive success by all concerned, which made us very happy. Those people included Timeout, The London Paper and The London Student, which made us even happier.

And then it happened all over again on Sat 27th AND Sun 28th September 2008 – over 100 acts were involved, and it was, in frankest terms, really really great.

So, we’ll be back again in 2009 with more of the same, keep your eyes open and ears to the ground… and whilst you’re waiting, you can keep yourself busy with great music from our regular nights – go check out the IKTOMS MYSPACE for all the details…

Tabarnak @ Absolut Ice Bar - Posted August 16, 2009

Tabarnak Below Zero

25th August 2009, 8PM
Below Zero, 31/33 Heddon Street (Off Regent Street), W1B 4BN
Entrance £5, but there’s a £3 unlimited guestlist for the artists so e-mail me if you want in.

Can’t turn down a gig at a venue like this. In fact you can’t turn down a gig from the Tabarnak crew altogether. Rachelle is said to own a sniper rifle and a sharp eye. Looking forward to this one – icey and vodka’d up. Will my hands get cold playing?

Big Big Big Chill - Posted August 10, 2009

Big Chill 003

Home from the Big Chill Festival and feeling good. Check out our tour van above… never do a festival without an out-of-service fire truck. Solar panels on the roof, fridge, sink, bath and cooker inside. Very spoiled.

We had an awesome time at the fest… it was my first Big Chill and it really was a big, big chill. So many chilled out people I have never seen in one place. Many thanks to Eugenie from the Big Chill Label for putting us on. We played the SolarAid stage and the sun came out just in time, drying up Thursday night’s mud, and never going anywhere for the rest of the weekend, save to allow the moon a go occasionally. The guys from SolarAid gave us an interview and filmed the set – can’t wait to see. Check out their website.

Musicwise I saw a lot of great people, this pick of which was probably Erik Trufaz. He smashed up our minds with his styles on Friday late afternoon and set the tone for the weekend. Here he is on stage from my long-distance, chilled out, lying on back angle in the crowd.

Maybe we’ll get to come back next year.

It’s all confirmed – I’m playing live at The Big Chill, busking for SolarAid. Can’t wait for this enough – people always say my music has a sunny sound, so SolarAid seems like the perfect organization to be playing for. Can’t wait.

Secret Garden Party 2009 - Posted

Just arrived home from Secret Garden Party and I had the best time. Playing in the Living Room was top – awesome audience – look at their gorgeous faces above – thanks guys. And thanks to Kevin and Phil for putting me on. The band before me got stuck in traffic, but the upside is we got to play a longer set, and even threw in a tune that I wrote on arrival on Thursday! Phil put in a great display on double bass, and we played an impromptu set in Lost Hotrizons too.

I watched some amazing music over the weekend – my highlights were Little Dragon and Size 9, both in Chai Wallah’s. Missed several peeps I wanted to catch – Woon (several times!), Nicky M, Portico Quartet and Megan Henwood sadly, but played drunken clapped out piano with Edd Keene which was loads of fun. Phoenix were top dollar too, and I joined in with the stage invasion at the end. The view from a festival main stage is incredible.

Many other amazing moments happened over the weekend – it’s the best festival I’ve been to. I’m going to my first Big Chill in a couple of weeks and looking forward to that so we’ll see how they weigh up.

I’ve been asked to play a last minute gig at The Cobden for Friday Street LIVE. I’ll be onstage in the Kensal Lounge at 8PM. The club’s generic charge is £7.00, and this will give you access to several rooms full of amazing music. Come baby come baby, baby come come.
